DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
Carved and painted wooden sculpture
Height 168 cm.
The work, originally from Siena, was donated by Cardinal Francesco Tedeschini Piccolomini to the Company of Saint Peter in Montalcino.
The Company of Saint Peter, active in Montalcino since the 12th century and documented since 1368, operated at the church of the same name (later San Lorenzo in San Pietro), which was suppressed in 1785. The church, located in the Pianello district, is known for the three altarpieces by Ventura Salimbeni that once adorned it.
