DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
Saint Louis of Toulouse (also known as Louis of Anjou), the royal prince who renounced the crown of Naples to become a Franciscan friar and later became Bishop of Toulouse.
Sodoma portrays the saint by combining elements of his spiritual and royal identity: he holds a book with finely decorated pages and displays the classic bishop's vestments that cover his Franciscan habit.
The fresco is part of a monumental gallery of saints and scenes from the life of the Virgin that covers the walls of the sacred space.
