DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION

The work is signed and dated by the artist himself and is located along the right nave inside the Basilica of San Francesco in Siena.

The painting is part of the Sienese Counter-Reformation painting movement, which straddles Mannerism and the early Baroque.

The composition shows Jesus in the act of blessing, flanked by the Virgin Mary and surrounded by angels, while Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Andrew the Apostle appear in the lower section.

The pictorial style reflects both the solid Tuscan academic tradition and the chromatic influences of the Veneto, particularly Veronese and Tintoretto, which Sorri assimilated throughout his artistic career.
