Current location: Basilica e convento di San Francesco
Original location: Basilica e convento di San Francesco
DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION
The painting The Death of Saint Galgano is not an autograph work by Deifebo Burbarini, but is officially attributed to a painter from his circle.
The work depicts the miraculous passing of Saint Galgano Guidotti, the hermit of Chiusdino, who dies in prayer before the cross. The canvas is located inside the Basilica of San Francesco, where Burbarini himself was buried in 1680.
The canvas reflects the typical Sienese religious art of the mid-17th century and combines the Baroque sensibility inherited from local masters with the stylistic methods typical of Burbarini, who in turn was influenced by Raffaello Vanni and Rutilio Manetti.
