Chiesa e convento di San Girolamo

SIENA

The church and convent of San Girolamo are a religious complex; the convent, founded in 1354 by Pietro Porcari, was expanded in the following century and in 1552 was devastated by the Spanish army.

Today the convent is home to the Provincial House of the Daughters of Charity of San Vincenzo de' Paoli. Both the convent and the church contain works of some interest.

In the former cloister there are frescoes by Bernardino Fungai and Fra' Giuliano da Firenze and always in the convent paintings by Francesco Vanni and Alessandro Casolani.

In the church, in addition to a fresco with the Madonna, angels and saints by the aforementioned Fra' Giuliano, we note the tombstone of the bishop Antonio Bertini by Urbano da Cortona and the first the Sant'Anna Metterza painted as an ex voto in 1530 by Onoria Orsini to Giovanni di Lorenzo.

Works in museums:

Polyptych of the Gesuati
