The Church of the Carceri di Sant'Ansano is documented from 1441; it was used by the Contrada della Tartuca as an oratory until 1663.
In the gabled façade, which has undergone various alterations, above the portal is a fragmentary fresco of the Madonna and Child with Saint Ansano and Saint Catherine of Siena, by Francesco Rustici.
Above it is a 15th-century oculus with a stained-glass window from the second half of the 17th century, depicting the titular saint.
Evidence of 15th-century decoration is found in the two frescoed panels on the left interior wall.
